I trained on weddings and shot them for ten years before I ever took to the street — and the street is where the eye got sharp. I come at it the same way I come at everything now: quietly, patiently, paying attention. The subject just happens to be in love.

I brought that back to the wedding day. It's why I'm not the photographer telling you where to stand — your dad's face when he first sees you doesn't survive being directed. It has to be seen coming. And after the street, a wedding day feels slow. There's time to watch it happen properly.
